Nick Jones – Latest Bridgend Athletic Senior Player Centurion

 In the 12-10  WRU League Conference win over Ammanford on Jan 5th  Nick Jones became the latest Athletic player to join the Athletic Senior 100 Club with his 100^th senior Ath appearance.

Nick first featured for the Ath in the Mini & Juniors. Following a misspent Youth – no rugby! – Nick spent a season at Ogmore Vale RFC.

 He made his senior Athletic debut in season 2010-2011 and has played 93 times for the 2^nd XV and 7 for the 1^ST XV. Most of those appearances in recent years have come at scrum half in a half back partnership with brother Scott, though he has also made appearances at centre outside Scott when required. He has scored 18 senior tries and 118 points. During his first 3 seasons of senior rugby the Ath 2nds competed in the National 2^nd XV League for clubs with 1^ST XV’s in the top tiers of Welsh rugby.

Nick also known as “The Greek” first captained the 2^nd XV in season 2016-2017 when the team defeated Bridgend Sports 2^nd XV 18-16 to lift the “Barrie Morris Memorial” Mid Glamorgan District Cup. That season he also made 5 1^ST XV appearances including an aggressive performance in an excellent 31-13 away victory at Ystalyfera in a Div 1 West Central fixture.

He continued as 2^nd XV captain the following season 2017-2018 when the 2^nd XV entered the inaugural WRU Conference League for 2^nd XV teams. The team defeated Rhiwbina 2^nd XV 22-7 in the final game of the season to finish top of Tier 2 of that league.

Through choice Nick has been happy to play 2^nd XV rugby and has served that team with distinction. The 2^nd XV are very important to the club. Many of the current 1^st XV squad started with the 2nds including current 1^ST XV captain Ben Howe. Nick when called on by the 1^ST XV has always put in sound and competent performances at scrum half.

Nick stated “Since re-joining the Athletic I have never looked back and enjoyed every minute of my time with the club. My proudest moment was captaining the Athletic 2^nd XV to victory in the “Barrie Morris Memorial” Mid Glamorgan District Cup Final against Bridgend Sports.”
