Former BARFC wing Jason Raffill completes Frankfurt, Germany Ironman

Former Bridgend Athletic RFC wing Jason Raffill successfully completed the Frankfurt, Germany Ironman on July 8th in gruelling 28C conditions.

At the age of 41 he bettered his last November Tenby Iron man time of 13hrs and 32secs by a remarkable I hour and 49 minutes completing the Frankfurt course in 11 hours 11 mins and 37 secs. His section times were 2.4-mile swim in 1hr 26mins 52 secs, bike ride increased by 3 miles to 115 miles due to roadworks in 5 hrs 43 mins 50 secs and the marathon run of 26,2 miles in 3 hrs 45 mins 44 secs.

Jason’s rugby career with BARFC was cut short in 2004 by a life-threatening illness which required major surgery and 14 weeks in hospital. He was a free scoring wing crossing for 20 tries in only 79 senior appearances. Such was Jason’s determination that 13 months after leaving hospital he ran the New York marathon.
