Despite the wet weather over the last few days the U13’s managed to get their match against Tonmawr underway on the A48 pitch.

It didn’t take long for the Athletic forwards and backs to link together with some strong clearing out and good handling, despite the conditions, to put Rhys Hockings in at the corner.  The Atheltic continued to make some good chances in the rest of the half but with some silly errors and soft penalties conceded they just didn’t take any of them again. Tonmawr then started to take control up front with some aggressive running off their set pieces and managed to crash over for a couple of scores, both being converted.

In the second half Tonmawr stepped up the direct running and used their pace out wide to create a number of tries. When the Ath did have the ball they were put under pressure which meant any opportunities created were spurned. Tonmawr ran out clear winners 43-5, scoring some good team tries to finish. 

To become a better team you must play decent opposition and Tonmawr are most likely the best squad we will come accross this year.  This season the Ath players are getting tested at a more competative level on a weekly basis rather than learning nothing beating developing teams by 50 points.  Next week we make the short journey to our local rival Bridgend Sports.
