BARFC Newsletter – Aug 2021

As pandemic restrictions are eased BARFC Ltd are well positioned both on and off the field for a healthy future.

Our late treasurer and benefactor Terry Coles left a legacy of a fully refurbished clubhouse, which the club are looking to exploit with social events and business ventures. The club had a wedding booking over the weekend and its splendid looking function room is open for both club and outside events. We are also upgrading our projector system to encourage business to use the club for meetings and training days. A Facebook business / events page is being created.

The club have also reintroduced a Sky Sports Package ahead of the Lions Tests series, which along with BT will cover major Sporting events for our members.

We are also looking forward to next season 2022-23 when the club will be holding a series of events to commemorate 50 years since the club was founded season 1972-73.

Committee wise the club are looking to integrate all sections of the club. Nick Doherty is the new Treasurer, Stuart Morris Chairman and Adrian Burt Interim Club Secretary alongside long serving Director and Secretary Roy Huntley who after 30 years at the helm is stepping aside due to domestic circumstances. Thanks, Roy, for your service and willingness to continue helping whoever succeeds you long term.

Other, committee include Lewis Down, Membership Secretary Rhys Jones, David Tidy, Yvonne Blackburn, Paul Hearne, Nathan Holman & Andrew Smith. Committee Vacancies exist. If you are a former committeeman or someone willing to attend fortnightly Monday evening meetings to help the club deliver an ambitious programme, please make your application to adrianburt2@aol.com ahead of club AGM Monday 23rd Aug at 7.45pm at clubhouse. All club and associate members welcome to attend.

Gareth Davies is our Grants Purveyor, David Perry, David Davison and Debbie Doherty are our main Sponsorship & Major Events subcommittee. A Social sub committee is in the process of being set up.

Businessman and MD of Church Village Travel David Perry has been appointed a Club Director & also Ticket Secretary. David has been associated with the club since 1974 as a player, captain, treasurer, former committeeman and long-term sponsor. David with his global business connections is looking to bring club sponsorship as well as sponsored club tours including to France 2023 for the next rugby World Cup. This will nicely round off our 50-year celebrations.

We also have an active Newbridge Fields subcommittee of M&J Chairman Dean Brown, spokesperson Adrian Burt, Gareth Davies, Paul Hearne & Nick Doherty, who have been instrumental in fighting a long battle since April 2020 to get BCBC to upgrade their badly neglected Pavilion at Newbridge Fields. To date the exterior is now looking good compared to the original as in accompanying pics, the interior is currently being electrically rewired and then mechanical services including shower systems being upgraded by BCBC.

Finally, BARFC have a joint venture with BCBC to redecorate the interior including newly screeded floors, upgrade each room and major Toilet block upgrade. Dean Brown is the BARFC Project Manager.

The NF subcommittee have also submitted ambitious plans with the Consultants engaged by BCBC to upgrade NF playing and changing facilities on the 2 A48 fields. Ambitious plans include a community sporting hub with 4G pitches, stands, an internal training barn, purpose built modern Changing facilities and pitch drainage throughout Newbridge Fields. The consultants are due to publish a phase 1 report soon.
