Bridgend Athletic RFC Condolences to Family of former Prop Dean Dent

BARFC wish to pass on its condolences to the family of Dean Dent, his wife Sandra, son Kurt (a former Ath hooker), and extended family. Dean passed away at the age of 54 on Sat 6th Feb 2021 and will be sadly missed by his family and those who knew him. His nephew Josh Seldon is a current Ath player.

Dean was a self-employed Builder & Plasterer, which would have helped with his strength as a formidable prop. He was notorious for his scrummaging prowess and a strong ball carrier and strong in defence, during the 1990’s. He played some games alongside his brother-in-law Rod Waite.

He had a good following from many of his relatives, both on and off the field. After watching Dean play, they would return to the Ath clubhouse and join Dean in supping a few ales and enjoying the excellent post-match atmosphere at BARFC. Dean was extremely popular both on and off the field with his fellow players and Ath supporters.

His son Kurt played through the age groups with the likes of Liam Griffiths, Robert Coles & Matthew Hearne and like his father played in the front row, but at hooker. Kurt was also strong and had a knack of emerging from a wall of bodies with the ball. He played youth and some senior games before moving to Pontycymer and earning a MOM performance against the Ath 1ST XV in a Cup Tie which Pontycymer won.

Dean loved his time playing for BARFC and always remained a true Ath boy at heart, encouraging his son, younger brother, and nephews to play for the Ath.
