Bridgend Athletic RFC thank Cowbridge RFC

Bridgend Athletic RFC are grateful to Cowbridge RFC for the opportunity to give 30 players a much-needed run out after at least 16 months without rugby, and for their post-match hospitality.

Cowbridge are coached by former Ath No 8 Dan Apsee, son of Ath head coach John. Cowbridge head coach Dan Williams is also a former Ath scrum half.

For many Ath players it was their first taste of senior rugby and John was pleased with their attitude and commitment.

The game was played with 4 x 20-minute quarters with the Ath trying out many varied combinations of youngsters and older heads.

John Apsee commented it was a very useful exercise and the coaches learnt a lot, as well as players shaking off the rust from enforced inactivity. He urged the players to try and attend the twice weekly Tuesday & Thursday training sessions to buy into the fitness and coaching required to play a high tempo Ath game.

Forward coach David Williams also recognised the need to improve on set plays and accuracy on the training ground.

This sets up the Ath for a six match August & September Plate Competition against fellow local Div 1 West Central sides Nantyfyllon, Kenfig Hil & Tondu.
