Aberavon Green Stars Youth 7 Bridgend Athletic Youth 26 Ospreys Youth League Div C East – Sat Dec 7t

Bridgend Athletic Youth maintained their unbeaten record in the league with another bonus point 26-7 victory over a plucky Aberavon Green Stars team. Like the 1st XV the win takes them to the top of their Ospreys Div C East league.

There was a minute’s silence prior to the kickoff to honour the memory of Lee Sims who tragically passed away last weekend and our thoughts and prayers are with all of his family at this sad time.

From the kickoff the Ath dominated every aspect if the game however looked very “ring rusty” and spurned numerous chances.

The one shining light in the first half was the performance of Joe Watts at full back who constantly looked a massive threat in attack and was a giant in defence.

It took a while to get going but eventually outside half Rhys Williams took the ball to the line, drawing the defence before feeding centre Danny Osarigie who skipped through the defence for the first try, converted by Williams.

It wasn’t long before Osarigie again crossed the line following a great initial run by wing Tom Davies, Williams adding the conversion.

A short while later Osarigie fed fellow centre Tom Florence who powered his way over the line supported by Osarigie and Watts, again converted by Williams. This gave the Athletic a 21-0 half time lead.

The second half started with the best try of the day. Green Stars attempted to run the ball from the 22 but second row Morgan Bennett produced a thunderous tackle which caused the ball to be dislodged. Scrum half Tom Lewis fed Tom Florence who straightened the line before feeding Tom Reed who did the same before feeding Joe Watts who flew over in the corner, unfortunately injuring his arm on the process. The conversion narrowly missed by Williams.

The Ath continued to dominate with centre Tom Reed looking a massive threat and flankers Sion Vigus and Ryan Neagle absolutely outstanding in every aspect of the game.Late on in the game the Green Stars outside half intercepted a potential try scoring pass from Tom Florence to race way to score a consolation try under the posts who he converted himself.

The Ath continued to dominate the game however spurnIng numerous chances and neither team scored any more points, with the Athletic running out 26-7 victors.

At the end of the day it was another bonus point win however the Ath will have to pick up their game and be far more clinical for their last two league games in the coming two weeks if they wish to finish the league as champions. The positive thing that the coaches will look at is the fact that the boys still managed a bonus point win despite not playing anywhere near what they are capable of.
