Recently 18 years old, Tomos Florence is currently an Ospreys U18 Development Centre. He recently featured for an Ospreys U20 side in a practice game against the Wales U20 squad.
The selectors were so impressed with his performance in the centre that they immediately drafted him into the Wales U20 squad at the expense of his opposite number. He will be a replacement in the friendly fixture against England on Saturday in Bristol. Let us hope he impresses again and is selected for the U20 Six Nations tournament starting on June 19th.
Tomos “Flossy” joined the Ath at U11 level from Bridgend Sports. His coach and mentor through the age groups and a current Ath Youth Coach Huw Lewis said” Tomos is the hardest working and fittest player I’ve ever coached.” He was at Llangynwyd Welsh School when he joined the Ath and is currently in his final year at Brynteg School where his mother Lowri is RE teacher and father Anthony is part of Ogmore Valley Builders. As a credit to his parents Huw described Tomos as the politest boy he has coached, always thanking him at the end of a training session.
He became an Osprey at U16 level and won Man of Match in a U16 Ospreys Cup Final for the Ath against Gowerton – selected by the Gowerton coaches. He is an extraordinarily strong running centre with deceptive pace and a wicked hand off!! He is also a prolific try scorer. In his first season in Youth 2019-2020 he assisted the Ath in going unbeaten and securing the Ospreys C East title before Xmas. Unfortunately, before the club could advance in the B League the pandemic struck.
Huw finished by saying Tomas deserves everything he has achieved and joins the Ath in wishing him all the best against England and a very bright future in the game.
