Bridgend Sports had no answer for “The Ath”

The Ath U13’s got back to winning ways.  After a tough home loss last week, the U13’s didn’t have far to travel to play the local derby versus the Sports this morning.

With the sun shining and nearly a full squad to pick from the Ath started the game at break neck speed. With the opening minutes proving fiery the breakdown was proving difficult to officiate, both sides took a while for the game to settle down. With forwards running hard lines, turning the ball over on the floor and securing their own ball at the line-out it allowed the Ath backs to get into the groove.

With some strong carries and good hands the Ath soon ran in 3 quick tries (2 from Rhys H and 1 from Dan S) with 2 successful conversions from Charlie R.

At this time the Ath were really pulling the Sports team from side to side creating the space out wide for the speedsters to really show a clean pair of heels.

Half time score 19-0 and the message was all about not letting complacency creep into the game.

The Sports started the second half putting the Ath forwards and backs under pressure and a quick pick and go from the back of a scrum allowed the Sports to get on the score board.
The Ath didn’t let this score get to them and they soon settled back into the routine that was successful in the first half, with some fantastic driving runs and good handling creating space out wide once again.
With a further 4 tries in the second half to Rhys Hocking, one after a lung bursting run from his own half by captain Harry G, he deserves a special mention, but with stand out performances across the park from 1 to 17 (as the subs came on) it would be unfair to pick out individuals.
Final score of 45-5 to the Ath was testimony to the team performance bringing an end to the Sports 13 match unbeaten run stretching back to last season.  With this result the bar has been set high as we now look forward to next weekend as we face back to back games on Saturday (Tring School) and Sunday (Pontypool Utd)

Final try count : Rhys H 6, Dan S 1 with 5 successful conversions by Charlie R.
