Ospreys League A Division – Sat Sept 16th 2017

Following a disappointing preseason, the senior Athletic Youth team winners of last season National League District play offs and the Ospreys A league secured a bonus point 26-10 victory over Swansea Uplands as they set off in defence of their league title. Many of last season’s senior team have moved on to senior level and most of last season’s Rags 2nd youth team now have moved up.

The Athletic opened in confident fashion quickly asserting control up front. This allowed the backs to showcase their skills. Wing Sam Palmer chipped ahead for centre Tom Davies to gather and put Pamler over in for the opening try converted by Matthew Hobby. Further good forward rucking allowed the dangerous backline to prosper with Levi Hallett crossing wide out for the second try, again converted by Hobby. The Athletic frustratingly saw many promising moves break down. One such move saw Uplands fly hack the ball 60 metres upfield and set up a scrum from which they moved the ball for a converted try under the posts, to leave the score 14-7 at half time.

The second half mimicked the first with the Athletic playing good attractive rugby. Flanker Joe Grabham showed great strength handing off many defenders on a barn stopping run before putting wing Cameron Lewis over in the corner. Uplands reduced their deficit to 19-10 with a well struck 40 metre penalty. Deteriorating weather conditions then led to lack of continuity for both sides, before replacement lock Harry Harries crashed over for the bonus point try following good forward interplay. Hobby converted for an excellent 26-10 win in greasy conditions throughout.

This Saturday Sept 16th the senior youth team travel to Nantyfyllon fo another Ospreys A league game.
