Disappointingly 7 Athletic 2nd XV players dropped out with various excuses on the morning of Bridgend Athletic 2nd XV travelling to meet Crymych in a Welsh Conference West fixture. This resulted in a depleted squad of only 13 players making the long journey West to take on league leaders Crymych.
To their credit the depleted squad gave the West Wales side a real contest, but sheer weight of numbers prevailed with the home side running out 26-7 winners outscoring the Athletic by 4 tries to 1.
All the Athletic players played well with centres Chris Price and Luke Yardley running strongly at the opposition. Price crossed for the Athletic try converted by outside half Scott Jones.
Forwards Aaron Mordecai, Rhys Evans and Geraint Lang were strong ball carriers throughout with scrum half Ryan Pickford being awarded the Athletic MOM. Others who turned out were Lewis Down, Aled Pilliner, Ellis James, Liam Griffiths, Alex Borley and Grant Edwards.
