Jason Raffill Completes 4th Ironman Competition.

Former Bridgend Athletic wing Jason Raffill completed his 4th Ironman competition comprising 226 km at Spain’s Basque region of Victoria Gastiez in his fastest time to date of 10 hours 31 minutes at the age of 42. This is 41 minutes quicker than last July’s Frankfurt Ironman. Jason is also a veteran of 2 Tenby Ironman competitions. Jason warmed up for this event by competing in a half Ironman 70.3km in Mallorca in May. In 2 years he has reduced his Ironman time by over 2 ½ hours.

Distinctly different to other Spanish races on the IRONMAN circuit, IRONMAN Vitoria-Gasteiz celebrates the unique landscapes and characteristics of northern Spain. Athletes can expect mild summer temperatures averaging 20'C as they start their 3.8km swim in the warm and calm waters of the scenic lake Ullíbarri-Gamboa, the biggest water reservoir in Euskadi. Heading out onto the 180km bike course, athletes followed the lake shores and continue through the beautiful green countryside and scenic towns of the Álava region while the Elguea Mountains provides the perfect backdrop. This course is known to be as fast as it is scenic, so personal best times are on the cards. Onto the run, athletes discovered the culture and architecture of Vitoria-Gasteiz's old town as they ran the four-lap 42.2km course in the very heart of the city.
