Bridgend Athletic RFC Congratulates Caine Woolerton on Selection for Wales U20 6 Nations Squad

Bridgend Athletic would like to congratulate Caine Woolerton on his selection for the Wales U20 6 Nations Squad announced on WRU website.

Caine commenced playing for the Athletic U8’s and with the guidance of Head Coach Lee Grabham and Assistant Kevin Gamble continued with the Athletic right through the age groups to U16 and then two seasons in the Athletic Youth, before along with his youth team captain Joe Grabham was awarded an Ospreys Academy place this season.

He is a very versatile back and has turned out with distinction in all the back positions. Caine was part of the Athletic junior sides that won the Ospreys cup at both U15 and U16 level. At youth level in his two seasons the Youth won the Ospreys A League. The first season they also won the Welsh Youth League play off final defeating Blues Region side Rumney. Last season they were beaten finalists to Pontypridd in nother Welsh Youth final play off. Throughout his career Caine has been a prolific try scorer.

This season along with Joe Grabham he featured in the inaugural Celtic Cup for the Ospreys Academy. Since the Celtic Cup Caine has featured twice for the Bridgend Ravens in the Premiership this season and four times for Bridgend Athletic 1st XV in Division 1 East Central. In all he has played 8 Athletic 1ST XV fixtures scoring 4 tries and 2 conversions.

The first Wales U20 fixture is away at the Stade de France against France on February 3rd.

His Athletic coach and mentor through Age group and Youth rugby Lee Grabham said. “It was obvious when I first met Caine that he had something special. His natural ability including great pace and an elusive side step was awesome to watch and work with over his many seasons with us. He also never shied away from the physical part of the game.

But apart from his skill set and the numerous tries he’s scored in Athletic colours he is a great kid, popular with his team mates and always willing to learn and improve. We are all thrilled for Caine and wish him all the very best in the forthcoming Six Nations for Wales U20s. Thoroughly deserved!!”
