Former Bridgend Athletic Player Jason Raffill completed Mallorca 70.3 Half Ironman

 

Now in his early 40’s former Bridgend Athletic RFC wing Jason Raffill, already a veteran of 2 Tenby Ironman’s and a Frankfurt Ironman warmed up for his 4th Ironman in Northern Spain in July by completing the Mallorca 70.3 Half Ironman on Saturday 11th May.

 

The Mallorca Half Ironman started in 2011 is now the World’s most popular event attracting 4000 competitors this year.

 

He completed the 1.9 km swim in Alcudia Bay in 39 minutes before transitioning to the bike.

 

 The 90km bike route starting and finishing in Alcudia Bay passed through the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains and numerous villages on the Island interior. Jason completed this section in 2hrs 48 mins.

 

The final 21 km half marathon alongside Alcudia beach was completed in 1hr 40 mins.

 

Including transition times Jason’s overall time for the 112.9km course was 5hrs 17 mins.

 

Jason’s BARFC playing career included 79 games and 20 tries before a life-threatening illness necessitating 3 months in hospital ended his promising rugby career.

He has shown great resilience and fortitude to bounce back with astonishing feats of endurance.
