Bridgend Athletic 2nd XV 0 Rhiwbina 2nd XV 5 Friendly – Sat Jan 6th – 2018

Bridgend Athletic of the West Welsh Conference arranged a friendly in what is a fore taste to come with Eastern section of the Welsh Conference team Rhiwbina. The East / West sections are due to merge for the second half of the season.

Shorn of 4 regulars required by the 1st team and with three late drop outs the Athletic started the game with the bare 15 players. With outside half Scott Jones later hospitalised with suspected broken ribs they played the final 20 minutes with 14 men.

The Athletic with wind advantage in the first half should have led at the interval missing some penalty chances, and players showing white line fever when passes would probably have led to tries for better placed team mates.

Against a very big back division the Athletic defended resolutely, but numerical advantage paid off late on when Rhiwbina cross kicked to score the winning try wide out.

For the Athletic in an overall strong team performance lock Aled Pilliner and back row forwards Aaraon Mordecai and Hywel Cosby were the pick of the pack, with centres Lloyd Pemberton and Josh Seldon the stand out backs.
