Bridgend Athletic Youth 2^nd string “The Rags” played heroically to overcome a giant Pontypool United pack at a neutral venue Mountain Ash and reach the final of the Welsh Youth Bowl, running out 20-14 victors.

 

The team are virtually all 17-year-old first season youth team players. A huge Pontypool pack with “Pooler” chants ringing in their years dominated possession. Although outgunned up front the youngsters defended for their lives and what possession they had used their speedy backs to cross for two superbly worked tries by centre Joe Patterson and outside half Kaine Woolerton. Scrum half Matthew Hobby had a perfect day with the boot converting both tries and landing two penalties.

 

The final will be on 8^th April against either Treorchy or Llandovery Youth.

 

This team will follow the current first string youth side and compete next season in the Osprey’s A league, and have every chance of following their example this season in winning that league.
