Only the Athletic Under 8’s were in action last Sunday May 12^th.

Sunday was the last outing of the season for the U8’s, this time taking the short trip to attend the Pencoed RFC annual Mini & Junior rugby festival.

All season the 8’s have had strong squad attendance and Sunday proved no different. This allowed the Ath’ to enter 2 teams, the Greens and Golds with both packed full of quality.

These were to be the 8’s last matches playing tag rugby, before they progress to the tackling game next season. It was therefore important for the boys to go out with a bang and they certainly didn’t disappoint!

Both teams dominated proceedings throughout. They’re attacking and defensive games were faultless, and the quality and intensity of their play took a lot of the opposition teams by surprise. The opposition coaches were very complimentary about the Aths’ play and this is testament to the hard work and commitment the players have shown all season.

The Aths’ outstanding performances led to an equally outstanding set of results, with both teams ending the day undefeated. This was a fitting way to bring the curtain down on a highly successful season for the 8’s.

The Golds played 5, won 5:

Match 1 - Win vs. Pyle (2-1)

Match 2 - Win vs. Llanharan (7-1)

Match 3 - Win vs. Baglan (5-4)

Match 4- Win vs.  Oakdale (6-3)

Match 5 - Win vs.  Dulais (6-1)

The whole club wish to congratulate Bridgend Ravens on retaining their Premiership status. 10 former Ath players represented the Ravens this season, with 5 also playing games for the Ath 1^ST XV this season.. 9 of the Raven’s players came through the Mini & Junior Section of the club. Around 90% of the current 1^ST XV squad are home produced through the club’s renowned Mini & Junior Section.
