Bridgend Athletic RFC are again grateful to Richard Dyke for agreeing to sponsor this Saturday’s March 10th derby at the Morganstone Brewery Field between Bridgend Athletic  and Kenfig Hill. Following a 26-18 defeat to league leaders on Nov 4th the Athletic visited Kenfig Hill who were 2nd in the league. A 7 try 39-0 whitewash started the Athletics’ current 8 Match Div 1 West winning sequence. The Club were disappointed that the Away game last weekend at Maesteg Quins was snowed off.

Richard founded his company R& M Dyke (Civil Eng Ltd, The Total Civil Engineering Service who place great importance on good service high skills of workmanship) in 1976.

The Dyke’s are a very sporting family. Richard played full back or centre for Porthcawl, Bridgend Sports, Bridgend and Maesteg.

His son Richard Dean an outside half or full back played for the Ath Youth and made 136 senior Ath appearances crossing for 62 tries and scoring 351 points. He then moved on to Pontypool, Tondu and Bridgend. He captained the Ath, Tondu and Bridgend. His daughters Chloe and Bethan have represented Wales at Netball. Bethan has been selected for Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Queensland, and has a ball named after her on sale in Welsh Sports shops.

Another son Christopher played prop and hooker for Bryncethin and Tondu and was capped at Wales Youth twice against England.

His youngest son Daryl an outstanding competitive flanker played for Ath Youth, Tondu and the Ath 1st team winning Player of the Year and most promising Player. He was presented with the awards in June 2005, before his tragic passing in December that year. The Daryl Dyke Memorial Trophy donated by Richard is presented at Ath POY Nights to a person who has made outstanding commitment to the Athletic during the season.

Richard’s daughter’s son Lloyd Wilson won Player of the Year awards in both the season he captained BARFC Youth, and now captains Bridgend Sports.
