National Youth League Play-offs May 12 Regional Semi final Bridgend Athletic v Crymych Carmarthen A

Bridgend Athletic RFC Youth having successfully retained their Ospreys A Regional League title will now be looking to emulate last season’s youth side who went on to win the National Youth League play offs, as the best club youth side in Wales.

Firstly, they have a difficult semi-final tie against Crymych the winners of the Scarlets Region, with the other semi-final being contested by Blues Region Champions Pontypridd and the North Wales winners Nant Conwy. A strong well organised Crymych defeated an under strength Athletic side 18-0 in the quarter final of the Welsh Youth Cup.

Athletic head coach Lee Grabham is hoping to have his star Osprey and Blues players available for the rematch. Caine Woolerton and captain Joe Grabham have been awarded  Development Ospreys contracts, while Will Barraclough and Joe Patterson played for the Ospreys and Blues development squads during the season, Woolerton, Barraclough and Patterson have all featured for the Athletic 1st XV this season, with Woolerton playing twice for Bridgend Ravens and Barraclough selected on the bench. Unfortunately, influential youth captain Joe Grabham has not featured for two months with a foot injury and is hoping to pass a fitness test this week.

With the Athletic senior clubs having finished their league fixtures it is hoped a large contingent of supporters will journey to Carmarthen to support the successful youth team.
