After two weeks on the road, Sunday 16th September saw The Ath’ U8’s playing host to Llantrisant. Cambrian Welfare were also due to join us but unfortunately had to pull out at short notice. The Ath’s squad numbers outnumbering the visitors had the potential to mean a lot of waiting around between games for our boys. Instead, a decision was made to loan Llantrisant a number of boys to even up numbers and enable each club to field two teams. Being the great characters and outstanding sportsmen they are, our boys didn’t hesitate when asked to play for the opposing club. Neither did it affect their enthusiasm in the way they approached the matches and the high quality and determination of their play. Thankfully, weather conditions stayed dry until all matches had been completed. This made for a feast of fast paced end-to-end rugby, with both sides displaying examples of individual brilliance and impressive team play. In total, four matches were played with The Ath’ running out worthy winners, coming out on top in all four. A big thank you to the Ath’ players who stepped up to join the Llantrisant ranks today and also the Llantrisant coaches and players for welcoming our boys into their fold.
