After playing Tring school at home on Saturday it was a trip to Pontypool the U13’s took on Sunday.
A frenetic first half began with the Ath getting off to flying start with Rhys H breaking through and putting Leo Q in at the corner. Then Pontypool started to take control of the game with some hard running lines and good play out wide meaning they ran in 3 unanswered tries. The Ath finished the first half strongly, though, with Rhys Hockings returning a well defended kick chase into the corner meaning they were only trailing 21 -10 at half time.
Pontypool started the second half at a great pace, continually keeping the U13’s under pressure and it meant they were able to score another 4 unanswered tries. The Ath didn’t let their heads drop and spent the last 5 minutes of the games camped within the Pontypool 22, however even with multiple penalties against them the Pontypool defence held out.
This was a tough test for the team playing against easily the best team they have faced this season, as we have said we to become the best you must play the best teams, the boys will regroup and go again next weekend against Rhiwbina.
Final score 45 -10 to Pontypool. Special mention to Dan H who managed multiple turnovers and carries in the game.
