With a fully fit squad the U13’s looked forward to playing their first home game of the season against Llantwit Fadre.
In the first half the Ath picked up from last weekend with some strong carries by the forwards, pick and goes and little offloads coming to the fore. This helped tie in the Llantwit Fadre pack, allowing the Ath backs space outside. 3 tries being run in by Rhys Hockings after some good handling by the backs with 2 of them converted by Charlie Rees.Llantwit Fadre did come back into it with a purple patch in the middle of the half with some good hard running, straight into the heart of the Ath defence, bagging them 1 try close to the corner.
The second half was a scrappy affair with handling errors and penalties being conceded by both sides. Defence was clearly on top with some great tackling and scrambling by the Ath. The last couple of hard games meant the squad were battled hardened and they were clearly not willing to concede anymore points, playing out a 0-0 draw in the second half.
With the whole month of October full of away games it was good to end the game with the 19 - 5 winning scoreline ahead of travelling to Carmarthen next weekend.
