The U13’s travelled to Tonyrefail with nearly a full team as injuries and illness still take their toll on the squad. As kick off approached the sun came out and all 14 players decided it was a good day to play rugby. In slippery conditions the inter play between backs and forwards was excellent in the first half with some outstanding handling across the park. With the forwards turning ball over at rucks and in the scrum leaving the backs to spread the ball across the full width of the pitch. This led to a fully deserved 26 - 0 half team lead for the Ath.
In the second half Tonyrefail decided to play tighter to the ruck to see if they could get any more joy, but the superb Ath defence kept them to only 1 score with another well executed team try of their own in response. Final score being 31 - 5 with special mention to Dan Stoodley for scoring 4 tries with Dan Honeyfield scoring the other and Charlie Rees with 3 conversions.
The squad are at home for the first time, this season, next Sunday looking forward to welcome Llantwit Fadre to Newbridge Fields with a few players returning from injuiries we should have a full squad to choose from.
